Red blueberry leaves grace the garden in autumn and the fine green asparagus fronds hang onto the summer that's passed. As you can see in the background of this photo, the poplar and maple trees have shed their leaves and have settled down for a long winter's nap. It's a time when the forest grows quiet.
The other day I noticed my cats lounging on the front step with their eyes on the apple orchard, which is next to the garden. I followed their gaze and saw two does eating apples. One had her head tipped up high as she nabbed a yellow delicious off a branch and munched it down. The other less bold doe ate from the ground, her eyes averting to me time and time again in a long stare as I watched on from the bay window. I wanted to snap a photo but my windows had condensation on them - the highs and lows of photography. LOL But I d
id take a shot of the deer path that they used when the crossed the creek. It's the opening at the bottom of the photo. The deer have the tall grass worn down to the nub in that spot. I'm sure bear probably use it too and other creatures.

I run there when I need to feel God's arms around me, and I take the trail down to the creek when I'm soul searching. We all need a place like this to know our hearts.
Do you have a special place you visit for contemplation?

Hi Carrie!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. :D
You have a great weekend too!
Hugs, JJ
JJ don't be surprised that they will be back. It happened to my backyard birding, now I have 'full house'. I got sparrows, chickadees and Junco making mess and morning dows cleaning up on the ground because they are too havy to sit on the feeder, lol. Very nice photos, you are so lucky to have nice background with deer. Anna :)
...I met backyard, lol. Anna :)
(we should ask google for spelling editor on the comment boxes, but then I gave you wrong word, lol)
Spell check would be great on the comment boxes, Anna!!! Great idea!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the post. :D
We bought a birdfeeder yesterday and Jeff plans on hanging it up today. :D He doesn't have time to build one this year. I think it has something to do with his kayak building. :D

RED blueberry leaves, how beautiful!
This autumn has been spectacular!
Wild wave to Lee, one of my favorite "Hoods" from my writing group. Click on her link and see what she has in store for us!!!
The red leaves were breathtaking on the bleached landscape, Lee. Most of the leaves have turned brown now, with only spots of yellow left like a dying constellation.

Hi jj: delightful color and gleaming reflections. I used to see deer quite regularly when I lived in the foothills of the Berkshires. I know too what you mean when you describe some of these places as the sanctuary of calm wrapped in the arms of God.
I haven’t been near there in a good while and these days though I find solace now again on my sofa knitting a scarf in a new pattern or crocheting a tried-and-true granny square afghan (my current projects) to keep me warm as winter beckons, threatens and teases.
I look forward to watching your record of nature as it transforms from crimson to crystal flakes. Because I rarely get out into the hills and forest anymore, your blog seems to be my present remembrance. That’s a touch of contemplative enchantment right there.
awomansblog, I'm thrilled you're having fond remembrances while reading my blog. :D I used to knit and crochet constantly when I wasn't working and looooved every second of it. That's the big thing in my life I miss because of my carpal tunnel woes. I hope you feature some of your knitting and crocheting projects on your blog so I can remember too. :D
Brooding snow clouds have moved overhead and the Upper Peninsula is expected to have a foot of snow. We're a tad farther south so I hope the foot of snow waits until after Thanksgiving. Please, God, only a couple of inches!!!
Hugs, JJ
Thanks JJ, my birdfeeder if been used everyday, and today we just got our first snow here in our town and north of us, and I say that because when we drove to the city it wasn't much there. It wasn't just snow, it was also frozen rain, that made all the branches to bent down. It was nice, but cold. Hope you got some friends too in your birdfeeder. I can see, the kayak project looked like a big project, lol. Anna :)
With the snow layering the ground Jeff will have to put up the feeder today, Anna. He's been meaning to shave a post for it so I can take photos of the birds from the window. Busy, Busy. :D
I can't wait to see more bird photos on your blog!!! Anna has a great way of capturing bird personalities...and all creatures.
Hugs, JJ
