Who's winning? Jeff or the Pool? LOL

Do you ever look outside once and awhile and then do a double take? Late yesterday afternoon I glanced outside and saw our cat watching something with rapt attention. My eyes followed her vision and then I saw the draining pool had turned into an ever changing bumping mountain. A bulge of heavy vinyl shot out here and there and underneath the heavy covering I heard heavy respiration as I opened the door and stepped outside. (I wish I would have thought to put this incident on video. :D) It was so slapstick I started laughing. Then I said, "Jeff, is that you under there?" I don't know what I would have done if a bear had growled back.

"Yes, it's me," Jeff said.

"Don't stop. I'll grab the camera!" I said as he fought with his heavy foe. Back outside, I snapped a few pics and then Jeff came out from underneath his makeshift tent.

"They say in the instructions to drain the pool, dry it, and store it away....WHY don't they tell you how to DRAIN it easier?" he said, his face reddened from all the pushing and shoving.

ROFL

Anyone recommend an easier way for next year's draining?

"Did you drain it like this last year?" I asked Jeff, biting my lip, knowing how much energy that must have taken.

"Yes, I did."

I'm on the search for an easier way. If you know, please tell me so we can save Jeff some intense exertion. :D

Lol!That was so cute. What I do not get is how he went "under" the pool? :P

And good thing you captured that moment, nothing like recollecting and having a good laugh later on :)

Have a good week!

Sameera, I offered to help but Jeff said the vinyl was too heavy for me. How he got under the pool, I'll never know. :D

It goes to show you, if your cat is avidly watching something, it pays to look. :D

What a memory. This one will get told at Thanksgiving. :D

We loved our pool as kids, but the end of the season was hell. After siphoning most of the water out, we had to get in & bail the rest. I love swimming, but I doubt I'd get a pool, myself.

Ahh, you did the extensive BAILING, Lana. You would think the pools would have a more CONVENIENT spout on them for letting the water out. Maybe this blog post will start companies designing a better way of emptying the pool. :D Sounds like Jeff isn't the only one to suffer from this part of the pool experience. They probably would sell more pools if they designed the outtake better.

Great story. Just one more example of written directions being the last thing consulted in a time of need. Bravo!

happy trails.

Swubird, thank you. :D It is silly how some bad experiences like draining the pool go on an on when they could be fixed with a different design.

Wow!! That's a REALLY GREAT photo of Jeff! I'm impressed. He wears blue very well. LOL You are so funny. I could really picture this one. And yes, the video camera would have been a treat. Poor Jeff! We're all picking on him and he was probably quite frustrated. Have you ever thought of getting one of those pump siphons that they use to drain tanks, etc. Most hardware stores have them and they aren't that expensive. They start the siphon for you so that you don't have suck on the end of a dirty old hose. Once they get going they drain by themselves. Just a thought, but then we wouldn't get to see next falls video of Jeff struggling with pool. I was so looking for to that! :) :) LOL

Why don't the silly pools have a plug at the bottom?
Actually I'd just let him struggle with the pool - worth it for the photos. Sorry, Jeff.

Kia ora JJ,
That is so hilarious. A plug would be nice. Or maybe just swim in the lake! Have a great day.

Very funny! It must've taken as much effort to get into the pool (or under it) in this case too!

Umm how did he drain most of the water out? I just put one end of a small hose near the bottom and then siphon the water out. Takes a few hours. WHen there are only a few inches its a piece of cake getting to dry up.

Thats my 2 cents.

Take care JJ.

Robin, the siphon only works so far because you can't get the siphon on the bottom to eliminate all of the water. That was the part Jeff was stuck with and when the pool is that large, it's a lot of work. It should be easier. Glad you enjoyed his pic. :D I know I never could have done it.

Suzanne, the plug is in a weird spot for draining, and it was fun watching that pool come alive for a for awhile. :D

JD, the pool is 12 X 20 feet, so a few inches of water still is a hassle. The drains on the pool are four inches up from the bottom for some odd reason and that is what is frustrating.

Jeff has come up with an idea. He is going to dig down in the ground four inches more in the center of the pool next year so that gravity will force the water all in one spot, and then he can siphon to a small puddle.

YAY!!! Problem solved. :D

Robb, Jeff and I do swim in Lake Huron every once in a while. We love to snorkel. :D

Shellmo, That big of a pool is a bear. Now that I said bear, watch one show up. :D Thanks for posting.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying Jeff's pool draining. LOL I am always on the lookout for a blog post.:D

Stay tuned...

Bob, I WISH I would have taken that video.

Readers, hop over to Bob's astronomy blog and look out for those micrometeorites. I hear they are falling from the sky all the time.

Hi! Great picture of Jeff alone with his thoughts! Heavens knows what he was thinking to himself at the time you took this top shot. Might be time to get an inground pool!

Take Care,
Peter

Hi Peter! LOL Jeff would LOOVE to have an endless pool. If my career works out, maybe he'll have it soon. :D

Glad you enjoyed the pic. We did enjoy the pool this year, and I know Jeff thinks the draining of it was worth it.

There is nothing like floating around on lounge chairs together and enjoying a cool drink while the windy poplars whisper to you with their gently rustling leaves.

Hi Raine! I'm happy you had time to post. Jeff could have used a swim after that skirmish LOL
