Winter has beautiful stages it goes through as the landscape becomes a thick blanket of snow and here is a photo I snapped before the season came into full swing. I enjoyed walking around and finding nature art on the trails. :D Using the AV setting on my Canon Rebel XTi, I snapped this frosty leaf shot. The saturated leaves made a great contrast with the ice.
The snowfall has been heavy this year so far. There was a rain/snow freeze the other night and Jeff broke the handle off the screen door trying to open it. That's the part of winter that makes one say grrr. LOL
We had a great Christmas with Jeff's parents but missed celebrating with my parents because of the hazardous road conditions. Hopefully the snow will stop falling so the highways will clear and we can make it to their house. My mom has some of the Christmas meal in the freezer and will thaw it when we finally arrive there. :D
How was your Christmas? We are now planning to trick Jeff's mom and dad next year with some gifts to return the favor of their shenanigans this year. :D Tricky, tricky. I love my inlaws as if they were my own parents. How blessed I am!!! We laughed a lot and Jeff's mom even served a gluten-free meal.
Hugs, JJ

Happy Boxing Day!Hope you both had a great Christmas :)
Hi JJ- Great shot, I love it. Merry Christmas. I'm glad that you're diving into the XTi. How are you liking it? Were you able to get sharper landscape images?
Tom
I don't think I've tried the AV setting on my XTI but must try it after seeing your great photo!
I have a feeling Christmas Day in the sun is a little better than braving your sort of weather conditions to reach loved ones. There could be lots of disappointment all round. I'm glad to hear you had a good time with the in-laws anyway. This way you can spread Xmas out until when you finally get to see your parents.
Sameera, thank you, dear. :D We had a super Christmas. :D I've been wondering how you are doing. Must pop over to your blog.
Tom, thanks. I'm loving the Canon Rebel XTi. Have learned to sharpen the landscape shots by using the creative mode and by increasing the DOF. Auto mode has limited capabilities.
Shellmo, you will be DELIGHTED with the AV mode. :D Also program for RAW when you are taking snow photos. It brings out more detail. I mostly use it for winter shots now.
Suzanne, we are supposed to warm up and have thundershowers soon. That will make one icy mix of things with all the snow on the ground. We have over a foot. The winter has been finicky this year.
How true about this holiday! Christmas will last longer - until we see my parents. :D I'm keeping the tree up for a couple of weeks because the colored lights look great compared to the gray skies outside.
I hope everyone had a great holiday. :D Here comes the New Year!!! WOOT!!!
Hugs, JJ
Kia ora JJ,
We had a hot and muggy Christmas here in New Zealand. Makes having a big meal difficult for me as I just want to go to sleep afterwards! Still a fun day, with my in laws who have also accepted me as one of their own. Always a little melancholy though thinking of my snow bound family back in Wisconsin. The 26th of December is Boxing Day, an old English tradition where the servant class was given a day off and given small boxed gifts, lucky them! It is still a holiday here, and one we traditionally spend at my wife's uncles farm in the foothills of the mountains enjoying relations seen only a few times a year, swimming in the river and doing a bit of hiking. I enjoy that day almost more than Christmas. Have a great remainder of the year! Getting ready for my mountain adventure in a few days time.
I was so glad to read your health is fine JJ, and will write to you an old Maori saying: Kia kaha, which means Remain Strong.
Aroha,
Robb
I am doing good dear, just have not been blogging much. Please to convey my regards to Jeff and your daughter :)
*Hugs*
I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! Hopefully your weather will be a little more tame so you can visit with your family as well!
Chris
JJ: Christmas went well. The kids came to visit us as usual, and we enjoyed Santa's generosity.
Our daughter gave us one of those round robots that vacuum your carpet. Assuming I can get through all of the instructions, we might actually have clean floors this year.
Happy New Year!
Sameera, Jeff gives a wild wave back. :D I will also tell my DD you have said hello.
Chris, thank you. I hope you have a super New Year. :D I must hop over to your blog to see how your Christmas was. :D We did finish the family Christmas visits and are looking forward to the next time we see everyone.
Swu, you had a perfect Christmas!!! WOW a robot vacuum. I can't wait until you blog about the trouble it gets into. :D
Happy New Year to all my dear readers.
Hugs, JJ
