You never know what you will find for a photo shot when you stomp around in the winter woods. I think I found a sleeping snow hippopotamus. What do you think?
This shot was taken on an overcast day - we're waiting for an ice storm - and I used the RAW digital quality mode because I heard that works better with snowy scenes. I have been experimenting and RAW does bring out more detail to the work. Snow tends to want to white out.
I wanted to roll this snow hippopotamus off the branch and hug it like a teddy bear. :D Nature knows how to spur the imagination and definitely knows how to make a walk in the woods delightful. I had a great time outside today...until my fingers grew numb.
Please tell me what you see in the pic. :D
Hugs, JJ

I see your hippo...That's hysterical! Great shot.
Aww it does look very snuggable! Kind of reminds me of Barney the dinosaur...
This is definitely a hippo! (Either that - or it's Snoopy with a swollen nose!) :-)
Love It! plus, so excited other people see images in the snow too!
JJ:
I'm, afraid my imagination doesn't discern anything other than your hippo. It's like the poor guy fell out of a plane and landed on that branch.
It's a beautiful winter shot.
Happy trails.
That's definitely a hippo - a little stunted in the nether regions but still a hippo. When you hug him, be careful of that mouth.
Lana, thank you. I was delighted when I found this sleeping hippo. :D
Bitter Chocolate, I wish this were a snuggly huggy. :D Thank you. :D
Shellmo, Snoopy with a swollen nose! ROFL.
Nature Lovin' Super Mama, Thank you and WOOT for kindred spirits meeting through blogging. :D
Swu, thank you and what an imagination. :D
Suzanne, I'll be careful. I need someone to turn this hippo into a huggy. :D
Happy Sunday, dear readers. We're expecting an ice storm. Had rain this morn.
It looks like the poor thing was trying to jump the branch, got caught, and then decided to take a nap, lol.
Cute!
I saw snoopy as well, lol Super shot JJ. I have been experimenting with Raw too, big difference, took two images of my backyard with fallen leaves, the leaves jumped out at you in the raw images, definitely the way to go if you want detail.
Lee, that's a great take on the photo. :D
Bob, thanks and boy, is there ever a difference with RAW. They take longer to load on but it's worth it. :D My daughter voted for Snoopy too. :D
Hope you're staying warm. We ghave 51 mph winds with a nasty windchill.

So nice to connect with you again JJ,
I hope to be more regular in the future. Thanks for the compliment. My photos range from fair to middling to ordinary but yours are truly top shelf! Like that goldfinch shot. How's the weather in your neck of the woods? Went from 36 to -7 during the day yesterday..now -5. Time for a trip south!
Danny, a trip south sounds GREAT!!! We had blizzard conditions with the temperature drop and 51 mph winds. The bridge was a whiteout.
It is fun connecting again. :D
I have photos coming out in a book next summer. :D
I'm glad you are enjoying my photos.
Jeff and I visited Pictured Rocks last autumn and I thought of your trek there. :D
Hugs, JJ
Don't laugh, JJ- I see Snoopy!
JJ lol yes hippo it is but it has seal flaps....Excellent shot. I never tried raw just because files are so big, but now that you mentioned may be I will. However, the snow just melted.
JJ I love your header, like the grainy effect.
Anna :)
Rick...Snoppy has gained some votes. :D Thanks.
Anna, another vote for the hippo. This has been fun. :D
I'm glad you enjoyed the header. It was snapped with my Kodak Easy Share from inside the house.

JJ:
Wow! I love that new header picture. When your site came up it jumped right out of the screen. Excellent.
Happy trails (Tweet, tweet).
Great photo!
But as obvious as it seems now, I think you still need to have a great deal of imagination to spot such thing.
Swubird, thank you. :D I am glad I have the Kodak Easy Share for shots like that. My Canon Rebel doesn't have enough optical zoom for that. :D Although I am not entirely thrilled with the Kodak Easy Share at this point. What I love most from it are the sky photos.
Greg, thanks. I love finding surprises in nature. They delight me to no end. Guess I am a kid at heart. :D
Hugs, JJ
