This inviting Giant Pines Cross Country Ski Trail (3.5 miles) greeted Jeff and I at Tahquamenon Falls and made us yearn for replacing our ski boots which have disintegrated over the years. They are the old fashioned kind of boot and we aren't sure anyone carries that style anymore. But we would have loved to follow the fluffy snow trail for more adventure at the falls. There's nothing like hearing your skis skim the snow as you traverse a forest rimmed trail with the wind numbing your face and excitement tingling through you. We might have to break down and buy new ski packages. LOL The temptation may be too much for us.
Our visit to the winter falls was breathtaking and I wish we were back there now. :D Not as many people visit the winter falls and they miss out on the magnificent beauty. But the conditions do become icy and it is harder to make your way to them. My grandmother always told me to travel when I was young and not to wait until arthritis set in because then travel becomes tedious. I do have arthritis already so Jeff and I should get movin'. :D
Have a super day!!!
Hugs, JJ

Thank you, Mark. :D

Beautiful Angel, how great to see your post. I'm hopping over for a blog visit.
I am holding my own...on a breast lump watch but so far so good.
Big Hugs, JJ
Hi JJ
Okay so I have decided that I am going to live vicariously through you when it comes to enjoying the winter. Wow, another great place and story you had.
We got hit with another snow storm today and I made myself go out to shovel. Does that count as enjoying winter? LOL.
I love how you are always on the move and enjoying the outdoors! If I lived by you - I'd be following you around w/ skis, snow shoes and other equipment. LOL!
Kia ora JJ,
Oh how I would love to be by that trail head ready to click my boots onto my skis and head off into that winter wonderland! The Quiet, but never silent forest awaits, so I write get those skis asap! From the point of view of having arthritis in my hip I would think the cross country ski motion would actually be fairly non intrusive. Nature always seems to have more impact when less people are about, at least to me, and there is something certainly special about the ice and snow - aside from the cold. Happy tramping my friend.
Aroha,
Robb
You and I share a great intrest in the falls. This spring mt.man are taking peanut up there and hiking the "big" trail. We have this kiddy back pack, and thought we would make it an all day adventure. Thanks for sharing your adventure :) have a great day!
Evita, thank you. :D I still am having trouble stepping out into the cold, but once I am there the winter ROCKS. :D
If you were a kid, the snowbank you are making while you shovel would be sooooo much entertainment. :D
Shellmo, I need the sun's Vitamin D for bone loss so do try to step outside once a day. The fun is just waiting for me. :D Thanks, dear.
Thank you, Robb. I am praying you do visit Wisconsin and Michigan in the future and show your family your beautiful childhood surroundings. :D
Arthritis is the hip sounds painful. {{{HUGS}}}. I have bad knees and Jeff has to give me a hoist up sometimes. LOL
Nature Lovin" YAY!!! that you're taking your family to Tahquamenon. Have fun on that big trail!!! Have a super day. :D
Hugs, JJ
There's no sense in wasting opportunities you may or may not be able to enjoy later, is there? I am comforted to know that, although my parents died young, they didn't wait until "later" on their travel dreams. Your grandma is a wise woman!
That's the only way to embrace winter JJ...get out into it. Today I embraced winter alright....5 hours of shoveling a two inch layer of ice on 6 inches of snow. THAT is the part of winter I don't like.
As always a great post. An enjoyable read.

JJ:
You grandfather is a very wise person. Do it now. Good advice.
A good friend of mine worked, worked and worked. He was going to take a long trip with his wife across the country. They even bought a motor home. But his bosses wanted him to work. They told him that he was irreplaceable to the job. So he worked. Twenty years went by. Then thirty years went by. He kept working long hours every day. Then one day the retinas fell off his eyes. It was sad to go into his office and see him using one of those huge magnifying glasses just to see the print in a magazine. He told me to go out and enjoy life now. Don't wait until something happens. So a short while later my wife and I sold everything we had, quit our jobs and went on a two year journey! We've never regretted it.
The falls sound absolutely beautiful.
Happy trails.
I was looking at your photos below and am wondering why the water is tannin colored in the falls. They look spectacular. It must be colder than I can imagine. Even in Northern Italy I have never experienced cold like that.
Hi! Not having set foot outside Downunder as yet, I look forward to the day that I will be able to traval overseas and see the sights that you have laid eyes on. I live in hope!
Take Care,
Peter
Footsteps, you inspire me each time I read your beautiful travel blog and you bring tears to my eyes because you're such a great Mom. :D
My grandmother and I shared lots of quality time together and I treasure every moment I had with her. :D
JD, thank you. I'm just in from snowshoeing. Took a spill when I tried to run. LOL I'm happy you enjoyed the post and the Tahquamenon Falls Ski Trail photo. :D
Swubird, how sad that your friend was pushed too hard. WOOT that you embraced life and breathed in the enjoyment God's creation has to offer. :D Thank you!!!
Suzanne, we have had below zero weather and it has been hard to bear but every day brings us closer to spring. :D
The tannin water comes from the pine forests in that area. The falls are quite the tourist attraction. :D
Peter, keep dreaming. :D That puts the wheels for travel in motion. :D
Wild wave! to my dear friends who visit this blog.
Hugs, JJ
cross country...yeah, it reminds me so much to my time in Switzerland when I was doing that kind of sport too in winter. :)

JJ beautiful, I am sure falls are magnificent during winter. BTW your grandmother was right, lol, I am starting to feel it too, and we actually have arthritis in the family. Excellent. Anna :)
Susanne, I hope you find ski trails on your travel across America. :D
I can see you skiing in the Swiss Alps!
Thank you, Anna. :D My grandmother was a special woman and made the best pie crust I have ever tasted. :D
I pray your arthritis holds off.
Hugs, JJ
