Through the Icy Glass

As you can see in this icy photo, winter has been having a delightful time of pounding us with everything she has. LOL I used my Canon Rebel XTi for this shot and aimed the lens through the icy window of the screen door. Was happy with the results. Notice Jeff's image with the weird pant shapes...and look at his head. :D It's great to experiment with photography and delve into the artistic side. The car ended up with some interesting distortions too.

When the nasty rain/sleet mix gets too much for a scraper, Jeff pours warm water over the windshield. With that completed and the windows of the car cleared, he then has the fun of driving down a frozen and rutted two-track to the highway. That can be an adventure in itself. WHEEEE!!!!

Have a super day. :D While I wrote this post, sleet started pelting the roof. Here we go again. I should send out a SMC...Send Me Chocolate request. :D

Hugs, JJ

"Nature and writing go hand-in-hand." I love this statement... I have been writing for our local community newspaper for about 6 years now and we advocate for environmental protection. I can attest to this statement. Actually, this is what flows in my blood right now.

I like your photos too. Go go go!

I like your picture, good job! Some advice though, don't pour hot water over the windsheild, as a life long resident up here, I have had the experience of this cauing problems with the vehicle and wipers. Just warm the car up 15 mins b/4 departure, and then use your scraper edge to cut into the ice on the windsheild. It is easier to scrape the ice off, and your wipers won't get damaged in the long run.(they freeze and build ice easier) Have a good Sunday! :D

Way to go JJ, very original of you. At first I thought it was photoshopped, snow and cold here still, but it is warming up only -29c,lol.

Brrrrrr....It was overcast yesterday, and I thought that was unacceptable. You're situation is insane! I love your fabulous nature pictures, but no way could I live like that. I freeze just stepping out of the shower! Imagine that.

Love the shot through the frozen glass. Well done.

Happy trails.

Very cool photo, JJ. We were without power here for a few days, and there were all sorts of cool sights but I never thought of taking pictures. I'm going to take a lesson from you on this and use my camera more.

The blur and the colour are so poeticly shot. I love it!

Elysplanet, thank you for your encouragement. I believe we are kindred spirits and can't wait to visit your blog!!! Newspaper reporting has been in my past and I also snapped photos. I bet you are having tons of fun in your community. What a special job you have.

Environmental protection rocks!!! I would love to become more involved with that article-wise.

Nature Lovin', thanks, dear. Jeff says if the water is the right temperature it will evaporate instantly and has never had a problem with the wipers freezing up in all the years he's been using this method of defrosting the windshield.

Jeff and I are lifelong residents of Michigan also. :D WOOT!!!

Bob, thanks and YAY for the warm up. :D The temps here have only been below zero so far with the windchill. I think 6F has been our lowest morning reading.

Thank you, Goooooood girl. :D

Swu, thank you. After the leaves fall off the trees and your skin gets over the shock of the colder weather and having to wear heavier clothing, you tend to hug a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and start enjoying the winter nature show. :D Birdwatching helps tremendously.

Rick, ooh, you were one of the people who had no power for several days after that wicked storm passed through Michigan. {{{HUGS}}}

We were without power for five days once and a power line dropped across our driveway, blocking us in until it was repaired.

I can't wait to see your winter pics!!!

Roentarre, thank you, dear. :D My muse is wrapped up in nature. The two are one. :D

Sadia, thank you. Have a delightful New Year. :D

The weather dipped to 3 degrees F last night. Shiver. The tough part of winter has arrived. But today the sun is shining.

A very creative photo. I enjoy watching your winter from afar, but would never want to live like that again. As you know, I did in Italy for 9 years.

Suzanne, I totally know what you are saying. LOL Jeff and I dream of wintering south in a warmer climate.

There are times when the snowfall delights us but the number of days we are hampered by the landscape are more.

I'm happy you enjoyed the icy photo. :D

Love the picture of the American goldfinch at the feeder. Even these birds so brightly yellow in the summer, wrap themselves in drabber shades and thcker *coats* in the winter.

hugs on the ice
