Lake Superior has both Jeff's and my heart and we love our adventures on that broody Great Lake, especially in the Tahquamenon Bay area. This photo was snapped by me on our trip late last August. We fondly nicknamed this site Mouse Island years ago and the name has fondly stuck with us. The few trees on it make great mouse ears. :D
The island is very small and fun to walk around but you have to watch where you step because of rusted metal and jagged bricks that blanket the shoreline and sandbar. Some sort of dock must have stretched into Lake Superior from this shoreline in the past and ghost pilings stick up eerily as if waiting for someone from long ago to return and reclaim them. We would love to know the history. We aren't sure why the tumbled bricks are there. They line the sandbar around the island.
Exploring the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is at the top of our list when we decide its time for a trip. We always have a great time while soaking up the atmosphere of nature at its best. Wild.
Hugs, JJ

Looking at this beautiful photo makes me wistful for visiting the U.P. soon! There is so many places I have yet to visit and I love seeing them through your eyes! :)
Hi! Do you ever take a break from all your exploring! Yes, I'm jealous but don't let that stop you two having fun together.
Take Care,
Peter
Picture Rock National Lakeshore along Lake Superior is one of my very favorite Michigan places. Looking down from the lighthouse trail the frigid water has an almost Caribbean clarity. The island sounds intriguing!
Gorgeous pictures. Nature and writing is my thing too.
JJ:
Such breathtaking photography. Well done.
Maybe the dock was left by pirates. Ever think of that? Maybe Mafia. Better be careful.
Another super post.
Happy trails.
Looks eerie. Maybe Swubird's suggestion about pirates is right.
Off to Vegas in a few hours. I'll email you and we'll talk soon.
nicely put JJ! Great photo of the island, caputres the majestiqueness (is that a word?) of the big lake! mt.man care planning our trip to the UP this summer, we can't wait!
Shell, thank you, dear. I hope you do visit Tahquamenon Bay in the UP. The State Park has a boat launch there.
Peter, Jeff and I only head out a few times a year but we make the most of it. :D
Footsteps, Jeff and I looooove the Pictured Rocks National Shoreline too!!! Tahquamenon Bay is to the east of that.
Troutbirder, thank you. :D Nature ROCKS!!! I must come and visit your blog.
Swubird, thank you. I see the writer coming out in you. :D
Suzanne, I am EXCITED to connect by phone call in the states with you!!! That island does have an eerie feeling to it.
Nature Lovin', that word should be added to the dictionary. It's a great one like fantabulous which is already there. You should suggest it.
Thank you and I can't wait to see your UP photos!!!
Good morning, dear friends. I will visit you soon.
Hugs, JJ
Kia ora JJ,
Ah, I can hear the waves gently lapping that shore line, so much a part of my youth. I think I may go put on Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot :)
Have a great day JJ.
Aroha,
Robb
Bee you tee full image JJ, well done, so can't wait for spring.
Robb, that song had a great impact on me too. :D What a awesome tribute Gordon Lightfoot made for the lost sailors and vessel.
It's raining and the snow is melting. :D
I'm glad you enjoyed the Lake Superior pic. :D
Bob, thank you. :D Spring is in the air. The winter has weakened its hold. :D
I know spring shows up on the March calendar. The moon should be AWESOME soon!!! WOOT!!!
Hugs, JJ
